About Us

Welcome to Roca Umbert Sound Factory

RUSF is a place for listening closely to what electronic music is becoming. We gather sounds, ideas, and voices that move at the edges of the scene, tracing the textures, questions, and energies shaping it now. More than explaining a culture from a distance, we want to stay inside its pulse: making room for difference, for curiosity, and for ways of hearing that open rather than narrow the world.

Roca Umbert Textile Factory

The origin of the Roca Umbert company dates back to 1871, in Sant Feliu de Codines, Barcelona, where Josep Umbert i Ventura (1844-1917) set up a textile factory. Industrial growth and the rapid consolidation of the Catalan textile sector tripled the company's production in a short time. Due to its excellent location and the presence of cheap labor, in 1904 he decided to install one of the first warehouses in Granollers, the one we know today as the Roca Umbert factory, with the aim of making the integral treatment of cotton. There were more than 400 looms in the facilities and over time services were added, such as the dyeing section or the finishing section.

With the death of the founder in 1917, his relatives continued to manage and own the company. In addition to the Granollers plant, the company maintained other production plants in Sant Feliu de Codines, Monistrol and Ripollet, as well as warehouses and offices in Barcelona.

Throughout these years, Roca Umbert has suffered several episodes such as the destruction of a large part of the facilities at the end of the Civil War, in 1939, the business expansion of the 1950s or the crisis in the textile sector of the 70s.

Our Values

→ Nearness We are drawn to the small-scale energies that keep scenes alive: collectives, self-run spaces, temporary communities, and projects built more from care than from infrastructure.

→ Curiosity We follow the sounds, gestures, and ideas that emerge from the margins, trusting experimentation not as a trend, but as a way of staying awake to what music can still become.

→ Shared Ground We believe culture grows through exchange. Across cities, languages, and time zones, we look for resonances between people building their own fragile, stubborn worlds.

→ Care We want to hold space for voices that are often overlooked, and to approach each artist, listener, and collaborator with attention, respect, and openness.

→ Independence We value the freedom of little projects around the globe: the ones that invent their own rhythm, work with limited means, and still manage to create beauty, risk, and meaning.

→ Continuity We care about what lasts beyond the event itself: relationships, memory, local scenes, and the quiet threads that connect one act of listening to another.

RUSF Series

RUSF Series are a concert cycle dedicated to experimental electronic music and emerging sonic approaches, where national and international artists present their vision of exploratory electronics: from ambient to bass, including leftfield, dub techno, jungle, footwork, dubstep, drone, and noise, while also showcasing practices such as live coding, where programming becomes both instrument and performance.
The series stands out as a singular proposal committed to quality, sonic research, and shared experience, taking place in the immersive setting of La Tèrmica at Roca Umbert—a space that once generated energy for the factory and now transforms into a laboratory of sound, light, and code.
Here, machines breathe in a different way. Frequencies move through the industrial architecture, shaping invisible landscapes. Each concert becomes an exploration: a way of listening to the present and imagining possible futures through sound.

RUSF Episodes

RUSF Episodes continues the quiet task of writing history within the old boiler rooms of the Roca Umbert factory. Spaces that once generated heat and pressure for the steam boilers now breathe differently: the machinery has fallen silent, and in its place a stage appears—one where invited artists speak through sound, revealing their interests, their curiosities, and the desires that move their work.
Episodes is part of our ongoing dedication to the music that unfolds around us. It listens closely, paying attention to small gestures, to atmosphere, to the details that give meaning to a place. In these gatherings, spaces once essential to labor are reframed and rediscovered. What once powered industry now hosts another kind of energy—shared presence, listening, and the fragile moment of performance.
Here, the past does not disappear. It lingers in the walls and the structure, meeting the present through music and conversation. Episodes simply opens the door for that encounter to happen again and again.

Concert Series

RUSF Series

RUSF returns with the second season of the RUSF Series, a concert cycle dedicated to experimental electronic music and emerging sonic practices. Starting in March 2026, the last Friday of each month will bring together national and international artists presenting their own take on exploratory electronics — from ambient and bass-driven sound to leftfield, dub techno, jungle, footwork, dubstep, drone, and noise. The series also highlights practices such as live coding, where programming becomes both instrument and performance in real time.

The cycle continues to establish itself as a distinctive platform for sonic research, artistic quality, and shared listening experiences, unfolding within the immersive setting of La Tèrmica at Roca Umbert. Once a power plant for the factory, the space now operates as a laboratory for sound, light, and code.
Here, machines breathe differently. Frequencies travel through the industrial architecture, shaping invisible landscapes. Each concert becomes an exploration — a way of listening to the present while imagining new sonic futures.
